Gouveio's resilience, acidity retention, and compatibility with schist soils make it at home in the Douro. However, the total acreage dedicated to Gouveio is decreasing because farmers are opting for grape varieties that yield higher quantities and, often, have more widespread commercial appeal despite their inferioririty.
